P'rllSnNna, as we do, the present issue of th\ Retowrnmc ANiD ILLAwArRA JouuNAL on SOhrhiltmas ove in the year of graco one thous\tand, eight hundred, and' eighty seven, we can?lhardly do less than wish our readers,. in established phrase, " a mnrry Christmas." There hai frequently boon seasons, and not seldom a sicoession of seasons, when, oomn. paratively spoalking, '"the earth has been iron and the ?!cy brass," and when the lbst wish that coul~l be uttered was that one's friends might hiavo a.wet Christmas-not, of Mecourse, in the co rivial, but in the meteorp logical sense. Wishes, indeed, are powerless an such matters; bu't, fortunately, there is on the present occasion no motive for suoch a wish as that above indicated. 'The season thus far has Iben one of unusual productive. ness. THE SOUTH COAST & WEST CAMDEN CO-OPERATIVE COMPANY. [Newspaper Article] — Reporter and Illawarra Journal — 11 January 1888

M'E SOUTH COAST & W'EST OAMDEN 00-OPERATIVE COMPANY. (Abridgled from the Eending News.) A virw days ago a representative of this journal paid a visit to the works and inter. viewed the manager, Mir. Porter. lie gath ered fasts from that; gentleman which, we venture to say, will be read far and wide, and will do much, wherever read, to break up whatever ,"gammon" the protectionists have been able to work off on the tillers of the soil, For a long time the South Coast and West Camden farmers, like others, had to put up. with a market which meant the confines of Sussex.street. ,There were some good men in business there, but tlhere were others who simply made up. a ring' which systematically for years plutideried tlihe fa' mer. Instead of crying out for protection the farmers resolved to improve their market, and by looking after the storage and'sale of their own produce, to get a legitimate return for their labour. The result was-the forma tion of the South Coast and; West Cam...
