WOMAN. [Newspaper Article] — Yea Chronicle — 3 September 1891

Ezio hours work, eight bhour sleep, eight hours play, that is the cry of the mechanic 0of today.i. We, -however, have no sympathy with such cries, we do not believe in- men who want to work but eight hours and keep their butchers,,bakers, grocers, chemists, and even wives at work from twelve to six teen hours daily. Wives' lives nowa days are too frequedtly lives of drudgery, up at 5 a.m. to get her husband's breakfast, then children to wash and despatch t. school,. then dinner to prepare, and so on to ten at night, one continual round of work, wash, and worry. 'Is it any wonder that they are prone to early decay. and premature physical declinel It is to be expected that they would be specially susceptible to animnia, indigestion,; liver complaint and headaohes. Their mode of life and long hours indoors is ;almost. sure to induce such diseases. On account of the duties .nature has imposed -upon the fair sex, great care 'should.'be takenof their physical health; on the.ficat 'approah...

STRATH CREEK & KERRISDALE (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) [Newspaper Article] — Yea Chronicle — 3 September 1891

S (r-. o ow0R owr oaaossroOa.rr.) 'A souar of 'our rdident visited Mel bourne for the purpose of attending the Agricultural Show, which appears to be in creasing in popularity every year. Mr. John- Richards was fortunate in recovering the whole of the property stolen from his dwelling, and the thieves were also lucky in escaping with such a light punish ment. Mr. -Richaids reached home after assisting in the- capture, only to find his house in possesleon of some thirty burglars, who had forced their way in during his absence, and did not appear in the least disturbed by his advent. It turned oiut, however, that the unexpeeted invasion was a " sunrprise party" which had been arranged in his honor, and numerous were the' con gratulations'which he received at the happy issue of. the brglary. Many people who would have otherwise attended were absent from, the gathering, being nuder the im pression that it would be postponed, amnd unfortunately the mhot important personage. of all (the' ...

CROWN LANDS SALE. [Newspaper Article] — Yea Chronicle — 3 September 1891

RW L2ANMD BAL Tse sale of town:sections attracted a large crowd to the Yea Court-house on Friday last, and in a few instances considerable ad vances were made on the upset prices. Mr. D. J. Wightman, of the North-Erstern Saw mills, paid the highest price-viz., £22 for 2r. 10 3-10p., in Miller-street, near the Lawn Tennis Ground. The upset was only £10, but Mr. Pratt started the bidding at £17, probably thinking that an advance of £7 would keep anybody else from bidding. There was also keen competition for an ad joining section, containing Ir. 27 3-10p., which was knocked down to Mr. M. P. Kelly at £16 1x. Mr. r. Hardy, the District Land Officer, announced that lots 5 and 6, fronting Craigie-street, in the occupation of Messrs. W. Stillner and J. Conlan (who were notified to remove improvements within one month) had been withdrawn from sale. When lot 10, containing 2a., fronting the Parade, was put up for sale, Mr. Dessour objected that the valuation for improvements (£35) was excess...
