m ifce wtt. PROTECT YOCB FBPIT TREES. Then, we say, begin on the rabliin. Protect your trees at all hazards. There are a great niany ways to effect thin, but they all involve work. Abont every rchanlit ami nurseryman has his own way of doing this, and the success of the way depends inneb niou energy and per sistence. One man will tell you to get a grey hound and keep the rabbit hunted down ; being no hunter, we cannot vouch for the success of this plan. Another will tell us to get' a liver, or a bucket of blood from the butcher's, nud rub the bloody liver or the blood upon the trees as high up as the rabbits can reach ; this plan is us ually effectual as long as the blood remains on the trees, but to be entirely safe will generally need renewing once ir twice during the winter. It is safe toavojd any greasy substance in smearing the trees, for while we may possibly keep off the rabbits we may coax'tbe hungry dogs to gnaw onr trees, not for the bark bnt for the grease.
