THE DAILY DISPATCH. C»j.tivatio.n o» the Grape.—ln the im mediate vicinity of Cinciunnti, Ohio, there are vineyard* embracing 1200 acres of ground, producing 210,000 gallons of wine annually, worth that amount ot dollars, and giving employmfnt to t'>oo laborers, at a cost of $120,• 000 a year—leaving a dear profit to the proprietors of the vineyards of $120,000. The above ore the results reported by a Committee appointed in Cincinnati to ascertain the facts. And these facts are especially worthy the attention of the people of \ irginis, and more particularly those in the vicinity ot Richmond. In no part of the United States does the grape grow mar", luxuriantly, or come to greater perfection, than in this section of our S:ate. We doubt whether the soil and climate cf France are more congenial to this cultivation, than the soil and climate here.— With the same skill and care in cultivation, bestowed upon it in France, it would be as large, fine, and prolific here as there....

ENGLISH OPINION WITH REGARD TO AMERICAN PROGRESS It is scarcely a year since all England resounded with denunciations against the Americans, for their supposed spirit of aggrandisement, the London Times taking the lead in the cry. The conductors of these several journals seemed to have entirely forgotten the history of their own country. They had, evidently, never heard of Wolfe, orClive, cf Warren Hastings, or the Marquis Cornwallis, of Canada or Sengal, of the Cape of Good Hope, or the Mahretta country. They had certainly not been informed that the great British Empire is made up of shreds and patches, obtained in the same irregular way in which we have obtained California and New Mexico. But a very remarkab...

The infatuated government of this Island eeems determined to rush upon its fate. It seems to have stripped oil the mask entirely, and to have placed itself in an attitude of open hostility to the United States. The ti r st affront offered to Captain Porter was bad etu ugh; it certainly demanded enquiry at the hands of our government. The last is far worse. It involves an insult, which our government cannot possibly avoid enquiring into. Nor do we see how it can be explained, or, in any degree, softened. It was as plain and palpable, as it was harsh and tyrannical. It admits ot no excuse, and no exteuuation. There was a large party in this country opposed to the annexation of Cuba.
