LOCAL MATTERS. [Newspaper Article] — Daily Alta California — 13 February 1850

LOCAL MATTERS. Attempted Suicide. — An Englishman named Thomas Brown, after copious draughts of brown Btout at the Eagle Coffee House, in this city, became stout-hearted enough to attempt to destroy hi nice If. Procuring a large mirror, he brought himself to a "front face," and with the religious hope of requiescat -ing during future ages in undisturbed pace, brought a loaded gun to bear, within a fow paeas of the glass, upon the counterfeit presentment of a lirown appearing therein. Tho piece went off and the more reflecting object that was "doing it up brown" went to pieces.
