CONRAD POWER COMPA.NY. On Saturday night Conrad Power and his brilliant players opened to a fair house afi Bailie's Theatre Royal in a stirring comedy drama "A Women's Sacrifice." which is a story pulsating with enthrilling human interest. The piece consisted of five acts, all of which brought forth rounds of applause from the audience. The heavy parts were played by Mr Walter Dagliesh as Armond Duval, and Miss Ada Lawrence as Camille Gautier. They were ably assisted by eight other artistes who filled their roles splendidly. The two principal characters, Miss Lawrence and Mr Dagleish, are out of the ordinary, and their interpretation of the piece stamps them as actors of the first rank. Last night the company were seen to advantage in "I have Eepaid." To night the same combination will play at Kaniva and should be greeted with a bumper house. Messrs Ryan and Bond (Mr J. P. Ryan, auctioneer), instructed by Mr F. Matz, "will soil by auction on Sat urday, 14th March, at 2 p.m., horses,...

LAWLOIT NEWS. [Newspaper Article] — Nhill Free Press — 3 March 1914

LAWLOIT NEWrf. Our correspondent writes on Thursday: —The welcome change has come at last, and life is much more enjoyable, Al though it is early for a good downpour, say two or three inches, if it did come it would considerably freshen things up. If this weather continues, water will be a big item round here, as already some people are carting from tho local well, and others aro watching their dams slowly but surely becoming dry.—Tho local harvest thanksgiving services wore held om Sunday last, when tho Rev. Allon officiated in tho moraine, and Mr Bell, missionary, in the afternoon. Both gentlemen preached to good congrega tions, the singing being a prominent feature of the services. Miss Amy Billingham presided at the organ.— Athlotics are in the air, there being no less than seven meetings of peds within a radius of about twenty miles. I would suggest that each club give 10 par cent of the profits to the fete committee for a long race for footballers—they may pick up one or two g...

ALLAN & CO. PIANOS. Mr D. R. Mackenzie, ofGlenlee, has just purchased from Messrs Allan & Co., of Melbourne, through their local agent, Mr T. Olney, of Nhill, a Lipp Claviola piano, with which he is not only pleased, but delighted. There is j no more beautiful instrument in the musical world, for it enables the I young or the old, without any know I ledge of music to play any musical composition in an artistic and finished manner. Tho playing cannoi be dis tinguished from ordinary playing except in as much as it is so much superior. The piano is so cleverly constructed that it looks like the usual upright piano when closed for hand playing, and may then be play ed by hand in the usual way; but by opening a panel a music roll may be inserted, and immediately, even without previous practice, the per former acquires complete mastery over the piano, such as could not be acquired by years of practice and study. The genuine delight that this brings into the family circle, ...

SPEND YOUR MONEY IN YOUR TOWN. [Newspaper Article] — Nhill Free Press — 3 March 1914

SPEND YOUR MONEY IN YOUR TOWN. We have tried to impress upon local people the necessity of making all their purchases locally, if they desire to build up the town. As wo pointed out some time ago, every sovereign sent away to Melbourne or Ballarat has the effect of making the place and its inhabitants poorer, and the opposite happens when the money is circulated locally^ Goods should be obtainable hero (plus freight) as cheap as at any other provincial town. The individual who is independent of local considerations can please himself where ho sends his money to ; but the person who depends on his support hers by reason of trade salary, or wages is an euemy to the town's progress and pros perity when he deliberately sends money away to other towns to sccure doubt ful concessions.

ORANGE BLOSSOMS i. GALE-MEYERS. A very pretty wedding was cele brated in the Woorak Methodist Church on the 25th of February, tho contracting parties being Mr Lewis Wallace Gale, and Miss Meyers, sieter of Mrs Gus Schultz and Mrs W, Siemering. The church was very prettily and tastefully decorated by the friends and relatives of the bride. A large arch spanned the aisle, draped with art muslin, and decorated with white flowers and lovely ferns. A large wedding bell was suspended from the centre, and also the initials of tho bride and bridegroom. Two other wedding bells hung from ropes of greenery interspersed with white flowers, and the lucky horseshoe in I silver, all helped to make a charming effect. The service was fully choral. ! The choir sang " The Voice That Breathed O'er Eden," as tho bride ad- , vanced up the aisle on the arm of Mr Gus Schultz, who gave her away. HOSPITAL FETE. The ordinary weekly meeting of the committee of the Nhill Hospital Fete and Bazaar, which is to take place on April 1st, was held on Thurs day evening in the Shire Hall, when the following ladies and gentlemen were present:—Mesdames Barnes, McKenzie, Lewis, Gunn, Turner, Hobday, Nougher, Shone, Misses Davies and Gunn (2), and Messrs 0. H. Douglas (chairman), W. A. Gunn, A. E. Turner, J. P. Byan, H. Hobday, J. Love, senr., J. Love, junr., G. Lewis, and R. Fischer. It was decided that a committee, consisting of Messrs Ryan, Douglas, and the secretary, wait on the young men of the town and try to induce them to take part in the procession. Mr Turner thought if a whol® holi day was given greater interest would be ovinced in tho day's pro-1' ceedings, and at the same time a better opportunity would be pre sented to the young people to take part in the procession.
