WHAT BULGES THE BOILER PLATES. [Newspaper Article] — Wellington Times and Agricultural and Mining Gazette — 7 January 1891

WHAT BULGES THE BOILER PLATES. An authority upon tho subject says that hanging or bulging of boiler plates ovor tho Uro is in noarly overy caso traced to tho use of oil in tho lioilor. Oil gathers tho scum and dirt into a cakp, --..?»?? ntfj uumiu Kill fllXJ 11IU HUUUlij IIUU thus prevent contact with tho water. Tho intonso lire boats tho iron rod liot, aud tho pressure bulges tho plato. Si;alo, if allowed to accumulate in largo quantities, may also possibly cause bulging, but tho first cause of all bulging in cylinder boiler plates may always bo traced to oil.
