GOULBURN MAN EXPERIMENTS WITH SHEEP [Newspaper Article] — Boorowa News — 13 April 1951

GOUWM HAN . SHEff For perhaps the first time in more than 40 years Am erican Rambouillet rams have been imported into Australia. They have been introduced into the stud of Mr. Ray Bladwell, in the Goulburn district. Mr. Bladwell imported the «heep recently and intends to conduct a series of experiments to note the effect of Ram bouillet -blood in strains of merino sheep which he is breed ing on his property. Few of these rams have been imported since the American sheep boom of 40 to, 50 years ago, when through some skil ful propaganda, it became a general idea that any sheep of American origin were of Al quality. The Rambouillet sheep is very similar to the Australian merino, as both came from the same source, but the former has tended rather to remain close to its original ancestors, while the present day Austra lian merino has resulted from wide . crossbreeding. A Rambouillet jam, imported straight from the Emperor's stud in Prance, is reputed to have made one of the greatest effe...

GRAZIER ACCUSES RAILWAYS OVER STOCK TREATMENT [Newspaper Article] — Boorowa News — 13 April 1951

GRAZIER ACCUSES RAILWAYS OVER STOCK TREATMENT A Moree grazier has ac cused the N,S.W. Railways Department of 'disgrace- ful treatment' of livestocki nariicularlv cattle. The grazier, Mr. Frederick M. Bardsley, of Tulloona, Moree, in an article published in 'Mus- ter,' the N.S.W. Graziers' Assn. journal, stated: 'If a man got into a y.ard with a beast and belted it with a lump of wood, the results would be meagre compared with those achieved by the Railways Department. ~~ 'It's a great state of affairs when one cares for stock through flood, fire and famine, to have them murdered by no hopers on the way to market.' He said that recently eleven cows in prime condition were carefully loaded on to trains for market, but two were dead on reaching Homebush. The problem could be solved immediately if road tpx on the transport of stock were remov ed, he added.

DRINK WHEN YOU REACH 40 [Newspaper Article] — Boorowa News — 13 April 1951

DRINK WHEN YOU REACH 40 The average man would be a fool not to drink after he reached 40, two insurance doctors said in New York this week. He should take three oz. of whisky a day, they said. They said the daily four ozs. was not a cure-all for all the ills of middle age but 'mostly it would help.' Dr. Schwartz, who is a med ical director of the St. Law rence Hospital .said: 'A man is a fool to drink alcoholic bev erages before he is 40. 'But he is an even bigger fool not to drink after he is 40.'
