Valedictory. That life is made up of meetings and partings was proved again bat Friday evening, when the members and adherents of ihe Methodist Church met together to say good-bye to Mr and Mrs Thistlcthwaitc, who are leaving Koroit to reside at Italia* rat. Tho Rev. J, flarningham, before making the presentation to Mr and Mrs Thistle thwaite, said that, it was with feelings of regret that they had met together to say good bye to Mr and Mrs Thistlcthwaitc, both of whom were held in high esteem by the members of the church. Port Fairy. [Newspaper Article] — Koroit Sentinel and Tower Hill Advocate — 3 October 1914

Port Fairy. Miss Dam narrowly cscapcd blindness on Saturday afternoon. She was enjoying a game of golf, when a bali driven by another player hit her-with considerable force immediately over the right eye. She was momentarily stunned, but on Monday the swelling was reduced, and she is much improved. Again we have to draw attention to the malicious spirit of destruction which pos sesses some persons about here. A com plaint has been made that one of the | ladies' bathing boxes has been forcibly entered, the lock broken in other respects. Several of the doors of others boxes too gave evidence of rough treatment, bearing the appearance of being battered with a stone.

DISTRICT NEWS. MACARTHUR. [Newspaper Article] — Koroit Sentinel and Tower Hill Advocate — 3 October 1914

DISTRICT NEWS. MACARTHUR. A nicc fall of rain tins been recorded here, which will do much to bcncht (he crops and grass. Although the fall was slight, it will probably save the situation, as it was badly needed. About half an inch was registered. A resident of the district, who has re cently returned from Melbourne, says that the railway line from Port Fairy is assured. He had a conversation with some of the heads ol the government, and was told that the line would bo gone on with. Residents are hopeful that this is correct, as the line would be a great boon to the dis triet. At present it is almost an obliga tion to get what is required brought to them, and then have to wait the conveni ence of others. Tho many friends of Mr. W. Real, of Breakfast Creek, will regret to learn that he is conlincd to his bed With a severe attack of pleurisy. While at Tahara he became so ill that lie sought advice from Dr. Stewart, who ordered his immediate removal home. It is hoped that he will speedi...

THE WAR. [Newspaper Article] — Koroit Sentinel and Tower Hill Advocate — 3 October 1914

THE WAR. Although the report of the collapse and flight of the German right in the north of France has not been confirmed, the enemy's general retreat is believed to be imminent. The German failure to ad vance, or even maintain their ground in France, together with Russia's wonderful progress, is raising hopes of a speedy termination of the war. Nevertheless the Allies are taking no chances, and are pre paring for a struggle of indefinite length. A foreign military authority in Paris estimates the German losses at 500,000. Despite expert opinion that, in view of the cost of life involved, the subjugation of Antwerp would not be attempted by the enemy, the Germans have begun to bombard the city with giant seige guns. Lord Kitchener sets the highest value on Colonial troops, and will eagerly wel come additional contingents. According to information in the pos sesion of the Russian general staff, there are twelve German army corps (600,000 | men) in East Prussia under the personal comm...
