ONWARD MARCHING. [Newspaper Article] — Chronicle and North Coast Advertiser — 27 November 1903

ONWARD MARCHING. Steadily marching onwards, : Dauntless and undismayed, We of the Labour legions, 1 'Gainst Boodle's battalions array'd Pinulv. shoulder to shoulder. Fighting for Justice and Right; Truth's torch lights our legions to vict'ry 'Gainst Boodle's battalions of might. Like to a placid river We in the past have been. Gliding along as the current. Little we sought to win. Boodle would stay the current, Sweeping it back with a broom. And damming the course Of progress — Preparing their own dread doom. Like the placid stream grown stronger Behind barriers preventing its flow, Steadily we are recruiting our strength. BoodleV barriers to o'erihrow. Armed with the sword of Justice, Striving on land and sea. Xe'er will we furl our banners Till our brothers from bondage are free. Walter S. Robkrts. i

THE DRUNKARD'S CHILD. [Newspaper Article] — Chronicle and North Coast Advertiser — 27 November 1903

THE DRUNKARD'S CHILD. In a covered van one winter's night. ' A little sleeper lay : '' i Homeless, friendless, was this child, j He had nowhere to :Stay. - | When duty called me to remove This cover from his head. j And wake ^he little sleeper uo From his cold, chilly bed. The stars were twinkling in the sky, The moon was shining bright ; December's winds were blowing cold Upon this winter's night. When first I saw that little form, I took a stealthy peep — It was a child of tender age. Who lay in slumber deep. I stood and watched that little form. And wondered in my mind If his friends were dead and gone. And he an orphan left behind. Or could he be a drunkard's child. Like so many, we are told. Whose parents drive them out from home Into the wet and cold ? Have I not watched the drnnkard's child. While tears have fillei my eyes^ I've seen their grief am', sorrow, too. And heard their bitter cries. While I thus watched and wondered. The moon shot forth her rays I'pon this littie sl...
