: IAND GARDBnT] [Conducted by thb Rambler.] THE SORGHUM FALLOW. •t—» ■ ■ FARMEfiS MUST BE SU 3E OF THEIR SEED. Sorghum Saccharatum—Only Safe ' Variety. I am further indebted-- to the Messrs "W. FJ„ and P, W. Salmon, the record, of -whose experiments with the sorghum fallow has aroused much interestamong readers of tbe "■Pioneerfor a note of warning regarding soxghumseed. Ia the light of theirexperience, the Messrs Salmon are .urgent in their 4esire that f*mers who propose to experi ment with the sorghum fallow should be, certain of securing the right variety of sorghum seed. The variety, winch has stood the test of experience, proving itself comparatively drought resistant, is the SACCSkRATUM. MANURING FRUIT TREES. BASIC CONSIDERATIONS. Importance of a Complete Manure. (W. Catton Grasby in the " Western Mail.") [Newspaper Article] — Murray Pioneer and Australian River Record — 3 October 1913

MANURING FRUIT TREES. BASIC CONSIDERATIONS. Importance of a Complete Manure. (W. Catton Grasby in the " Western Mail.") In discussing the manuring of any crop it is necessary - to consider the various factors involved. These are -moisture, soil, and climatic condi tions. If we sow a field of wheat in May or June, we expect, under ordinary canditions in the wheat areas, that the crop will occupy the ground for -3 or 7 months at most, .and during this time it lias to make its growth and mature its seed. If we plant a crop of 'cauliflowers like Mr. Packer didjat Cannington on the 27th January, we may ^expect under iavouratfle conditions, such as bis with the sprinkler irrigation, to be able to cat from 25 to 40 tons of succulent green vegetables from an acre in 3 months. Probably from 90 to 95 per cent, of this material is water which has been taken up by the roote, the other small quantity being mineral matter also obtained from, the 60il. In order that thiis immense growth may take p...
