Netters Undefeated In Devastating Play byAlLopus Sports Reporter The Behrend tennis team has extended its winning streak to three matches in a row continuing their undefeated season. After being rained out of Saturday's match with Beaver Campus (PSU) Behrend came out and overwhelmed Erie County College with a dazzling, devastating play. The final score of the match was 9-0 after Behrend swept both singles and doubles. Coach Lauffer mentioned that the final score does not indicate the strength of their team. He pointed out that four points we won were decided in the third set after being tied at the conclusion of two sets. The closest single match and perhaps most exciting was between Behrend's Bob McPherson and ECC's Acharya from India. After losing the first set 6-4 Bob was down again 5-2 in the second set. Acharya only had to win one point to become the victor but McPherson went on to win that set 7-5 capturing a point for Behrend. Jay Baker also came back to win his match...

Linksters Opened Season In Victory Over Ashtabula Poetry In Motion Bob McPherson shows beautiful form as he lines the ball back to his opponent with a perfect overhead. McPherson led the Cubs to their third straight victory as they drubbed Erie Community College 9-0. by Tim Everett Sports Reporter The Behrend Campus Linksters opened their 1972 golf season with a win by defeating Ashtabula-Kent State last Thursday. The Behrend golfers ended up with 174 points to Ashtabula's 204. As you may, or may not know, the low score wins in golf. The teams were only able to play nine holes because of inclement weather and threatening darkness. The match was played at Hemlcok Spring Golf Course outside Ashtabula. The main scoring surge came from Dale Cake who fired a 42 and copped tiie Medalists honors Dale was follwed by Larry Gartner and Joe Enerski who were one stroke off of Dale's pace with 43's. Behrend's Baseball Team Boost Their Record Cubs Cubs Take Doubleheader Over McKeesport Campus byTonyAIo Asst. Sports Editor Behrend's off-and-on baseball team copped two out of three games in last week's action to raise their record to a 3-2 while being washed out of one road date. Two big innings, one in each game, made the difference last Thursday as Behrend swept a twinbill from McKeesport Campus 9-2 and 8-2. In the first game, the Cubs erupted for 5 runs in the second inning to ice the victory and Mark Lytle scattered 9 hits and fanned 7 for the win. The big inning featured RBI singles by Duane Zimmerman and Bob Marks with an error letting in 2 more runs. Marks led the Behrend attack with 2 safeties in 4 trips to the plate. The Cubs clouted 6 hits off McKeesport pitching. The nightcap saw BC send 11 straight hitters to the plate while tallying 7 times. Sports Editor Bobby Marks, Behrend's hustling, heads-up third baseman, has been selected tins week's athlete of the week on the strength of his fine performance over the first give games this season. The three-time letter winner from Charleroi High School in Pittsburgh, Pa. lias been the most consisten ballplayer for the hot and cold Cubs so far.
