Fiemonr Third Edition of Saturday THE POSITION OF AFFAIRS ATKN0XVILL2 Washington, Feb. 6.—Private iuformatiou direct from Chattanooga, is to t_e; effect, that several days ago, though there was a. force at Daiton, the main body of the rebol army was at Rome, Ga., under Johnston. The latter fact is accounted for on the ground either that the enemy were forced to go to Rome for convenience to their supplies, or to prevent desertions—between 8,000 aud 9.000 men having come into our lines since the battle at Missionary Ridge. 4 There is no such alarm at Chattanooga about the safety of our troops in the neighborhood of Knoxville as seems to prevail elsewhere, and many of the published accounts to that effect, are characterized as exaggerations. The cxjurior line between Chattanooga and KnoxviUe was uninterrupted.
