ANECDOTE OF ToM MARSHALL. The late Tom0 Marshall, of Kentucky, was one of the ablest lawyers thllt State et er pro duced. His wit was keen and his sarca.n cut like a Damascus blade. The following is an ex ample : On one occasion he at tended a phrenological lecture at Louisville with a party o0 friends. His faith in that science was not strong, and at t'ie close of the lecture he invited a few chosen friends to accompany him to his rooms at the Gait house, and he would examine their craniums and -tell them more about themselves than the lecturer could. A foppish young gentleman, with more brass than brains, heard the proposal, and uninvited slipped into the room. Mr. Marshall was just mellow enough to be in high spirits. In examining the heads lie pass ed the young upstart. Finally Mr. Marshall said : "Gentleinen, I have now examined all your heals, did I not do as well as the lecturer?" The youig ltop sprang. to his feet and exclaimed: "Mr. Marshall, you have not ex amined my head....
