THE CITIZEN. SATURDAY, - - ' FEBRUARYS, 1875. LEGISLATIVE WORK. A few Facts Worthy of Consider ation The Citizen last week remarked thai the Eighth Legislative Assembly bad ac roinplished much in the way of beneficial legislation. The more the 9bject U ex amined, the more apparent does this statement become. It is safe to assert that the Sixth and Seventh legislatures together were of less worth to the Terri tory than the Eighth. It is true that there was much wrangling and useless and ineffectual effort on the location of the capital, and incidentally on local mat ters like county boundaries, but In all this no pernicious law. was enacted. This fact must not be lost sight of in passing judgment upon the acts of the latelcgis lata re, nor the other fact that no really good bill was lost, so far H3 we can learn, 1n consequence of the capital wrangling, On all questions ot Interest to the whole Territory, save the one cited, the legisla ture acted upon its best judgment and, as tho re...

THE CITIZEN. SATURDAY, - - FEBRUARY 2,1, 1875. TEXAS AND PACIFIC 1ÍIJLL. The Great Press Duty of the Coun try Press. Our dispatches show conclusively that this bill will not pass this session, and also show that a majority of Congressmen admit Its justice, but are too cowardly to vote for it, fearing the criticism of a bully ing press, itself devoid of principle and, . as recent developments show, ready to take money when offered to tear down or build up .enterprises without reference to merit. Tha most malicious and unfair of the lot, is The New York Tribune, under complete control of Jay Gould, who is a very large owner in the Union Pacific. What ts known as the great press, or press of the large cities, is just about as in famous as it is 'possible for any tolerated Institution to become. Liooal sentiment and local papers elect congressmen, and when elected, congressmen are controlled -In their action by the Infamous dictation of this infamous large press, aidéd as it is by the e...

1 V J THE CITIZEN. SATURDAY, MARCH ti, 1875. ARIZONA RAIX.WAY SYSTEM. This system Is assumlng'defl It may be encouraging If not useful to group -together a few facts. First and above ail, we regard the trunk line the Texas and Pacific, and its con struction so great a commercial necessity that its completion is only a question of a few years. Conditions aie being develop ed that will insure its early construction From'the north, we will have a counec tion with the Union Pacific at Ogdeu, the road being already built through and many miles south of Salt Lake City. It is understood Jay Gould of the Union Pacific is-largely interested in this road, and con templates carrying it south tli rough-Utah Arizona and Sonora to Guaymas, or to a connection with the Guaymns and Tuc -son road now surely decided upon. This road will have the importance of a grand trunk line. It will cross the two great -east and west overland roads and have a direct outlet to the Pacific ocean. The 'country along ...
