Eaton's work "Petroleum: A History of the O Kegiou," published by J. P. Rkellr & Co., 732 Chesnut St., Philadelphia "Ii was in the fall of 1767, Mora viau Missionary, the Rev. Ziesbcrger, accompanied by two Christian Indians ns assistants, cucceeded in penetrating the wilderness and reaching a point on the Allegheny near the mouth of Tio nest Creek, and about 30 miles above Franklin. This good brother appeared among the red men of the forest, un armed, plainly dressed, and simple in manners, with the one avowed object that of doing good. At first the mis sionary was regardocj with suspicion, but gradually won his way iuto the favor of the people until a chapel was built, corn planted, and the work com tnenced. We believe the poiut is well taken, and therefore giva it a place in our columns: Tho news from Washington is that the utterance in the message and Sec retary's report on specie resumption were not meaningless words. A strong pressure is said to have been brought ' to bear in the Senate and with some success, to make a move to give e fleet to the suggestions offered. OUTWITTING A roMJUKl- ATtON. OIJ Dr. Strong of. Hartford, was not often outwitted by his people. Ou one occasion he had invited a young minister to preach for him, who proved rather a dull speaker, and whose eer mon proved unusually long.
