Go'to Wilkinson's for holiday pres outs. Nearly all of our sugar planters have finished grinding and we have yet to hear an unsatisfactory report of the results achieved. Senator Landry and Representa tives Fobb and Hill will depart for the capital to-morrow, to be present at the opening of the General A-ssem bly's session. Christmas was a wet, cold, disagree able day, and but few people were to be seen upon the streets. Indoors, however, there was good cheer and merrymaking to the usual extent. Mr. G. Feitel says he is not proud because his brother has been elected Treasurer of St. James parish, but he is proud that he has received a large assortment of ladies' and childrens' shtes,6which are the best and cheap est in town. The subscription price of the CHIEF bas been reduced to two dollars per annum. Now is the time to subscribe. Messrs. G. W. Mitchell & Co. have occupied their new stable corner of Railroad Avenue and Iberville street. where they are better prepared than ever before to accommodate their pat irons. Senator Landry spent a couple of days here this week, returning to the Capital yesterday. He is hopeful of an early and satisfactory conclusion of the present governmental dead lock. A most agreeablc change in the weather has taken place. The " flood gates of Heaven " have been closed at last, ard instead of rain, fog and mud, we now enjoy sunshine, moonlight and dry sidewalks. The roads are still in a rough condition, but are im pvoving rapidly, raising the blockade which almost totally prevented travel by other mneans than horseback, cars ior steamboat. L T...
