Omnibus Reconstrnction bill reported yesterasy in the House. From this the talk naturally glided into a discnsien of affairs in the Solth. The pres dent seemed to be very mush interested in a de scription of the negro delegates to the Sonthera Conventions. When it was recited that in several instances the negro and white delegates were on naturalized, that darkies from Canada, Jamaica. and el-ewhere were thrust into the conventions on the same footing with Southern darkeys, that an unpardoned negro delegate from Sing Sing and a negro horse-thief frem a town in the interior of Alabama, were among the mosteminent members of the Georgia and Alabama Conventions,. and that the delegate from Sing SBiog had since been sent to the G;eorgia State Senate, Mr. Johnson's ejes grew big with disgust. He had evidently not been advised of all the pleasing incidents of reconstruction down South. A pause occurred in the discourse I ventured to touch inth,.gentlest possible way upon the great current ...
