They participated in the outdoor program of the Scouts which included swimming, canoeing, and lifesaving in the aquatics area. Grape-Growing Started As A Hobby Couple Enjoys Fruits Of Labor Bub Phillips of Austin puts some muscle into a press which extracts the juice from the grapes. BASTROP — Growing grapes was a weekend hobby for Harold and Isabelle Malloy. who found the job fun, "something we enjoyed doing." and very rewarding. But what began as a hobby five years ago, has now grown into a good-sized business with plans to expand the vineyard to 10 acres and the opening of a winery in two years. Malloy owns 180 acres, located three miles north of Bastrop and farms five acres of grapes. He planted his vines in 1973. and saw his first fruit yeild three years later. "It takes three years to train and develop a grape- vine, "said Malloy. "After that third year, the vine will produce fruit each summer, providing you prune the vines in the winter." The...
