A Popular Feminine Soliloquy She was a beautiful young girl and the same sad stor\* that alas, has often been told, and checker- ed many a young-life which had its beginning- in sunshine, sur- rounded by luxury and the wealth of the world. She was a deeply troubled and injured woman, and we hear'her saying: *'0, cruel one, you have injured the very foundation of my being! Day by day you have tortured me, and \*et I cannot beai>to give you up. When we ñrst met, how your ease and polish attract- ed me! But your understanding is too small for my large sole. You are supposed to be my ad- vancing in society. If we never had met, I might have walked in peace. So now be gone! We part forever.'' There was a moment's conclusive breathing, a gritting of teeth and a sharp sigh. It was all over. By a su- preme effort, she pulled off her new shoe.—Mineral Wells Index. This is often the case when young wome...

SPRINGER & SON The Progressive Merchant % —*$*——:—*$•—4*— These words have been said to us, "We can't tell from your pa- per how you stand for governor." That's true, and if you were as familiar with the facts as we are, you would plainly understand why you can't tell. --¿y-.': m y Jayton vs.Aspermottt. The Jsptyton Jays crossed bats with the Aspermont Asps last Friday and Saturday in a battle royal for supremacy on the As- permont diamond. The Jayton team arrived on the 5:05 p. m. train and were met by our local team and escort- ed to the ball park, where the game was immediately called with the Jays to the bat, and Hemphill in the box for the Asps. The first Jay up got a safe hit, the next two failed to support, another safe hit, and another fan, and the side was retired without pulling in a tally. The first Asp to the bat was Roy Robinson, and he landed for a good two bagger, but the next three fanned and the side was retired with Roy still on second base, and no scores recorded. The second inning opened up with Burnet at the bat for the Jays. He was bit by the pitcher, and passed to first base, where Harrison took his place in the running, and brought in the first score of the game, and before the side retired two more had been chalked down.
