Cable News. THE SHIP-BUILDING STRIKE. THE POSITION AT BELFAST. EXTENSION OF THE STRIKE FEARED. ARBITRATION SUGGESTED. . London, Nov. 10. It is understood that the Govern ment 'has asked Mr. Gerald Balfour, Secretary for Ireland, to bring influence te bear upon Harland, Wolff and Co., ship-builders, at Belfast;, with a. view to settling the difficulty between them and the engineers. Unless the Belfast dispute is brought to a close, it is feared that the strike will extend to London and Newcastle. The Clyde engineers hare ceased work,, which is regarded as indicative of the 'temper of the men eng.nged in. tho trade throughout the United Kingdom. The Belfast news papers suggest tint Mr. Justice Fitz gibbon should be asked to act as arbi trator between the local disputants.

It is alleged that ihe banquet was tendered so as to prevent a panic on the Stock Exchange, that Sir Joseph Renals had been buying shares in Barnato's bank, and that he feared a rush on that insti tution.

C.; Scott, Inspector General of the Gold Coast constabulary, now in England, will set out with' all despatch to Coomassie, the capital of Ashantee.
