Ltd., Ypunghusband Ltd., and Farmers and Glaziers' Co-op. Co., conducted their sixth appraisement of the 1940-41 season on January 23, when catalogues totalling 11,000 bales were offered. The bulk of the wools were drawn from the later shear ing districts, and included many well known standard brands, ^ which were of excellent style and in dry condition. In the ' ^ main, however, the later wools this year are much thinner, of a lower type, and part tender, as compared with wools from the same areas during- the last season. WHAT OF GERMANY'S FOUNDATIONS? (Continued from page 1 of Supplement) [Newspaper Article] — Albury Banner Wodonga Express and Riverina Stock Journal — 31 January 1941

WHAT OF GERMANY'S FOUNDATIONS? (Continued from page 1 of Supplement) turies. Unwilling to accept an in ferior place, fearful of being out-run, '' Germany has sought a short cut to j national unity and strength through an imposed uniformity. ★ But are reaction and resent ment the right materials with which to build a world empire? Even if the Germans have con quered many countries in a short time by their military superiority, this does not mean that they have the inner strength to maintain their pre sent position. Napoleon's conquest of Europe was an adventure which lasted only a few years, and Hitler's feat has much in common with Napoleon's, in good points as well as bad. Hitler, like Napoleon, has rudely shaken many countries out of their old traditions, which would not have fallen under less arduous circumstances, and so he, too, clears the way for fresh development in countries which had fallen asleep in their traditions. But what are the consequences for Germany herself ? Even...

CITIES OF THE WORLD SWrrZffiLANO IN blossom time (Extracts from letters which 'Kay' wrote to her parents while on a trip abroad before the war broke out in 1939.) LUGANO (Switzerland).— It was a short trip from Como to here and most of it through tunnels. '. We are* very thrilled with Lugano. It is tucked away in the mountains, which rise very sheer from the waters edge. There are miles (more or less) of steps in all the streets down to the lake level. Now j narrow winding streets. ;L do wish you could see the ilowers. There -'are tulips laid on. They .are around all the borders with a back ground of pansies and, forget-me-nots; iSonie were double,, but we didn't- like Llieni. ... We got our full issue of blos som again here — lots of a kind of. flowering plum, a pink flower and those dark leaves and the -Japanese magnolias.: - They range- from almost pure white to deep- purple, and the trees were laden with blooms. . !\V'c walked ? along :the lake front tli rough' some lovely , gar...

Trie Letter Box Has Many Friends ' Dear Barba.nl, — Having recovered from the Christmas celebrations, I eommonce to. wield the pen again. The drought seems to be well and truly broken in many places, but we still need rain, as the heat has just about defeated the rains recorded at the j turn of tho year. I- imagine many people must be Wondering which is. worse — a short age of water or an overdose. - I was most amused .at 'Wilhel- mina 's ' ' experiences with ' her 1 ' ' cor- ries.' There is no doubt .'.thoy arc a grand source of pleasure.
