Meetings for To-day. - A special meeting in the estate of Henry Townsend, at tun o'clock ; an adjourned meeting in the estate of Gc rge Leonard Cooper, at eleven ; and a special meeting in the estate of Henry Brook Wray, at twelve._ City op Sydney.-Yesterday being the day appointed for closing the citizen lists and delivering them to the Town Clerk, they were handed to Mr.Coanor accordingly. The only hews from VmrD.'cmen's Land of any importance, is, that the Executive Council had been taking evidence ns to the propriety of introducing n Usury Law, and that the Banks had signified their intention of reducing the rate of interest to eight per -cent. The Legislative Council was to meet on the 21th August.

PORT PHILLIP. Melbourne papers to the 30th August carne to hand yesterday, which contain little news of importance. A petition to the House of Commons, prnyirig- that the Resident Judge's Court might b"c rendered independent of the Sydney Judges, was stated to be in course of signature, but it was not said who were the promoters of it. There had been no arrivals from England so late as the news already re- ceived here.

His Honor this day delivered the following judgment : This was a bill for a specific performance. The parties to the suit were, the Secretary and the trustees of the Steam Navigation Company, joining with a Committee of the Creditors of John Thomas Wilson, who u out of the jurisdiction of the Court (und not named as a party), complainants ; and Abra- ham Polack, together with the trustees named in a certain deed executed by bim in trust for the benefit of his own creditors and those of Wilson, defendants. The Clarinda has taken in her full comple- ment of wool, and may be expected to leave for London on or before Sunday next. THE "RICHARD WEBB."—The Java Courant of the 28th May, says that the British ship Richard Webb, on her voyage from Sydney, 16th April, bound for Batavia, struck on a coral reef not laid down in Horsburgh's charts, in lat. 6° 51' S., long. 121° 31' E. The captain and crew were obliged to leave the vessel, and succeeded in reaching Batavia in safety. It not the very existence of these colonies, ¡it rill events their advancement in population 'and wealth, primarily and principally de- pends upon its right determination.
