Correspondence Water for Stock (To the Editor) [Newspaper Article] — Northern Territory Times — 12 August 1927

Correspondence Watip for Stock (To the Editor) The Government have fanned in the 2£ Mile dam io keup rhe goa*s and* horses out. There is now nowhere el«e where these animals can get water. Two men own from two to three bun dred goats which are watered at their own ¡homes by means of the Govern- ment dump at the 9¿ Mile dam. These men gee salaries up io ¿120 per fort- night and keep the goats and sell the milk at sixpence per pint to the public. I do not object to any man keeping two or three goats for his own use, but the Government should not allow high salaried Government employees to keep so many and to supply them w11 h water at the public expense. If this stoppage of water to the public continues, the people will be compelled to get rid of these necessary animals, but it is hoped that some strong re- commendations will b« mad« to thd authorities to havt this great injustice remedied without delay. P. BARNICOUT

N S W LABOR PARTY STRUGGLE Sydney Thursday [Newspaper Article] — Northern Territory Times — 12 August 1927

NSW LABOR PARTY STRUGGLE Sydney Thursday George Cann, formerly Minister for Health in the State Labour Govt was defeatedi in the Labor party selection for Lakemba, b,ut he willi bo a candidate at the elections in October. He states that he will standi as a member of his old party and it will be a fight to a finish as far as he is concerned. "I am dead against dictatorship," he said. The 'balllöt was crooked!, as I was leading up to the eighth count, but they decided to butcher me. The decision of Cann will come as a surprise to Premier Lang and the Trades Hall group, as they hadl strong hopes that the members of the moderate section of labor would accept the defeat organised by Jock Garden and his party, they being respon- sible for the defeat of the ablest memiberá of the party at the select ballots held last Saturday,

CORRESPONDENCE THE TOWN COUNCIL (To the Editor) [Newspaper Article] — Northern Territory Times — 12 August 1927

W2> THE TOWN COUNCIL (To the Editor) Sir,-Though the Town Council voted to increase the Mayoral al- lowance from fifty pounds to One hundred pounds, they would! have done better to have left that quest- ion for the rate-payers to settle ¡by a general vote, rather than to have done it without consulting ?'.he rate-payers ; seeing that it is their money that pays such salaries. Mr Watts should remember that when V C M Presley was elected Mayor, last year, that he lodged r.n objection to the.Mayor being elected by the Council stating that it should be for the rate-payers to elect the Mayor, and not the Council, and that he disapproved of the Council- lors being the electors, also he con- sidered that the Mayor should have no salary at all, that he should be content with the honour and glory of the position. Has he very conven- iently forgotten all. about this ? He ,made no objection at his own elect- ion, nor did' he voice a single doubt ' as to the ability of the Counciii to pay su...
