Boinka. From our Correspondent. Boinka, in common with other   places in the mallee, is greatly con- cerned on account of the drought. A public meeting was held last Saturday night to consider the ad- visability of approaching the Go verment for assistance. Two members of the Linga Progress Association attended the meeting as delegates. A resolution was carried in favor of seeking Govern- ment aid and delegates were ap- pointed from Boinka settlers to meet in conference at Boinka at 2 p.m. on the 19th inst. Mr Currie, the teachet of the Boinka. State school, will be trans ferred at the end of this month. The school committee is joining with the football club to give him a parting social. - Mr Currie has been very successful in every way and his name will ever be associated with the school decoration and library; which would do credit to a larger school:

Experimental Wheat Growing. Mr W. Hopkins, of Irymple, is trying an experiment in wheat growing. Most people in this dis trict pin their faith to the v-riety of wheat known as Wilkinson the true name of which is Glnyas. Mr Hopkins, while admitting that this variety makes good headway under adverse weather conditions, is of opinion that a variety better suited for hay may be found to. do well under dry conditions- About the first of May Mr Hopkins sowed four distinct varieties, in addition to Wilkinson- They were Firbank, Hugenot, Kemp's Early, and Thew. Of these the. latter has ct.,rtA r.lit hest- bt the most promising appearance is shown by Firbank This -crop is about 3ft. high, except in places where its growth has bees affected by green box and pine trees growing amongst it. Senator Millen received a wireless message on Sunday from Admiral Patey on board the Australia at New Guinea as follows :-Herbert Shche occupied and hoisted British fl g at 7.30 yesterday without opposition. Simpson Havn-? swept ready to be entered to-day- The naval force landed tnder Com mander Beresford and destroyed the wireless station. They met with a vigorous opposition. The advance Darty, atdawn, established a landing before the enemy was aware of its intention. Within a few hundred yards of the landing place a bush fight was commenced and carried on for almost four miles. A public mneeting convened by the head teacher and committee ofi State school 3853, Ouven North West, was held in the hall on the? 31st ult. to discuss the best means of a'ssiistin in the xrand n ltrovi,-nn - --the Patriotic Fund. Miss Boyce acted as secretary for the meeting. Cr. Pickering addressed the meeting re the war and the urgent need to assist those going to the front. He also spoke in glowing terms of the glorious example the i party facrtions in the" Motherland had shown us.
