Local and General News. Casixo Police Court.— At/the local Police Court on Tuesday last, W. Lee, on bail, on two charges of alleged larceny, was again remanded to the 17th, the presiding magistrates being Mr. J. B. M'Douorall and Mr. N. Harper. A hawker's license was granted to Mr. J. J. Newton, and an auctioneer's district license to Mr. W. G. Simpson. Novel Divorce. — A divorce suit lias just been heard, the facts of which in a novel or on the stage would be de clared to be incredible. The petitioner was serving in the recent South African campaign, when he overheard a con versation between two volunteers on sentry duty at Tlmbanchu, who came from the place where his wife was living, which convinced him of her in fidelity. Sensational Suicide. Nkws is to hand in Brisbane from the Ebagoolali mining field, that a well-known miner, named Charley Green, who has experienced bad times lately, grew despondent. His tent was noticed to be euiDtv. and the fol lowing communication was fouud : — 'You need not bother about looking for me. I've gtone out in bush, and gathered a heap of firewood, and set fire to it. 1 then got on top it, and blew my brains out.' The police immediately started searching, aud on the fifth day came across what was left of a burnt pile of wood with some humau remains, indicating that Green had carried out his purpose.
