A month ago <,ld Nan Rogers lived there ; to-day the place is in the keeping of rats and mice and desolation. The old woman was a widow and childless. She lived all alone. having only a bit of land and being aided by kind neighbors to raise enough to supply her wants. Seven or eight yeanrs ago when her last child left home to meet a violeni death on this same road, the men of the rails became in terested in that quaint old farm house. Weary Women. (Sanitary Mfagazine.] Nothing is more repreheusible and thoroughly wrong than the idea that a woman fulfills her -sty by doing an amorunt of work far beyond her streigth. She not only does not fulfill her duty, but she mnost signally fails in it. There can be no sadder sight than that of a broken-down, over-worked wife and mother a woman who is tired all her life. through. If the work of the household cannot be accomplished by order, system and moderate work, without the necessity of wearing, heart-breaking toil--toil that is never ended and never . begun, without making life a treadmill of labor, then for the sake of humanity lot the work go. Bet ter to live in the midst of disor der than that order should be purchased at so high a price the cost of health, strengthhatpI piness and all that makes exis tence endurable. The woman who spends her life in unnecessary labor is by this very labor- unfitted for the highest duties of home. She should be the - haven of rest to w...
