Last Sunday, about nine o'clock, a horri ble murder was perpetrated in Jackaon, Tenn., un-old und highly respected lady, Mrs. N S. Van Hook, being the victim. Her children had just gone to Sunday School, and for a few moments she seems to have been alone in her room. Soon a neirro wo man employed as cook went into one of the rooms of the mansion to see about "letting out things" for dinner (this is the nepress' story), and to her horror fcund Mrs. Van Hook dead upon the floor, her head cleaved with a hatchet.
