STOP KILLING YOURSELF [Newspaper Article] — El Sereno Star — 14 May 1964
STOP KILLING YOURSELF by Dr. Peter Steincrohn MOBS NAGGING WIVES mean fewer widows Often the choice is; be a nagging wife; or, become a nagleas widow . Here is what I mean. I have known many, many wives who have said to me after their husband's death: "Somehow I blame myself because I didn't nag him into going to see the doctor In time.” For example, a man is losing weight and strength. Anyone can see that here is a sick man. But he says, "I’m too busy to see a doctor.” ” His wife now has a choice. Shall she stand by and watch him go downhill into serious, often mortal, disease? Or, shall She throw indecision overboard and nag him into getting medical attention? Nagging, by connotation, is net a pretty word; and the recipient of such a wife’s ministrations often brings about squabbles and hard feelings temporarily. Some women have the courage to stand upf.to their huebands when tlu|r react with the usual explosive: "Stop nagging, will you?” They realize where health and life are con...

Ground covers solve those hard-to-reach problems [Newspaper Article] — El Sereno Star — 14 May 1964
Ground covers solve those hard-to-reach problems For the hard-to-reach areas of your garden, consider ground covers as the answer since they take little care. With only an occasional watering, weeding and thinning out, you can enjoy them every day of the week and ignore weekly clipping. Ground covers include plants that will tolerate a great deal of foot traffic, some traffic or ao traffic at all. Some offer blooms of flowers or fruits. From the many types available, your local California Association of Nurserymen member can advise you as to the variety best suited for your need. A familiar cover for areas' without traffic is the Ajuga reptans. also known as Carpet Bugle. This cover provides a beautiful setting with rosettes of dark gren leaves and four inch spikes topped with purpleblue flowers. The Ajuga grows well in sun or shade. Since the Ajuga grows in a thick' mat, most weeds are kept out and upkeep is almost non-existant Occasionally clean the leaves with a bamboo rake or st...
