They will bear the PanamaPacific Exposition seal, and read Get your Congressman To vote for the PANAMA-PACIFIC INTERNATIONAL EXPOSITION at tile EXPOSITION CITY, SAN FRANCI...

A Woman’s Whys [Newspaper Article] — Eagle Rock Sentinel — 8 October 1910

A Woman’s Whys Contributed Why docs friendly rivalry always stimulate progress and unfriendly rivalry retard it. ?? ? ? Why would a prominent club woman a little rather her friends did not see her when she attends a moving ptjtdre show. 7? 7 ? Why should the inevitable half cent at the end of your bill always be appropriated by the merchant when it really is just as much yours as his. ?? ? 7 Why do women wrangle over a piece of goods at a bargain counter when as a matter of fact they could buy it at the same price any day in the week. ?? ? ? Why is it that the woman who looks straight at you when you are talking to her instead of everywhere else is the one who brings out the best that is in you. 77 7 7 Why is it that when we are unexpectedly called upon for a speech we say those things which we ought not to have said and leave unsaid those things which wc ought to have said.

Glendale High Notes [Newspaper Article] — Eagle Rock Sentinel — 8 October 1910

Glendale High Notes By Anna Kathryn Megilligan The new students enrolled in 0. U. H. S. from the valley are Ernest Becker, Florence Werden, Margaret Harrison, Kenneth Harrison and John Lovejoy. • * • Two more new pupils have come to Glendale. They are Mr. Feliz and Mr. Moore of Texas. This makes the enrollment 290. If it keeps on growing in the way it has this year, the new building will soon be outgrown. ■y m • On Wednesday morning, in the Junior classroom, excitement reigned supreme, for some one had come in the night before and decorated the transoms in lavender and white, the class colors. It was an extremely delightful surprise for ‘‘Old Sol” had a bad habit of peeping through the transoms and resting on the boys and girls heads in such a way as to make them sigh for an umbrella. Now, the room is nicely shaded. • • • The first inter class basket ball game, the Senior vs. the Sophs, was held on Wednesday at 4 p. m. The game was handicapped from the start because all the boys in ...

NEW ORLEANS IS GREATS WORRIED Unsatisfactory Census Returns Are Not Least of Its Troubles [Newspaper Article] — Eagle Rock Sentinel — 8 October 1910

NEW ORLEANS IS GREATS WORRIED Unsatisfactory Census Returns Are Not Least of Its Troubles New Orleans’ fear that the census returns, which give that city a population of 339,075, will have an unfavorable effect on Its prospects of securing the Panama exposition may not be entirely without reason, but, in the opinion of the Portland Oregonian, the slow growth of the Southern city will not be the greatest handicap to the realization of its ambition to win the exposition fight. The Oregonian says; “It is not at all clear why the difference between what New Orleans expected and what she received In the way of Government census figures should materially affect the status of the exposition. New Orleans has other and more weighty factors to contend with in this contest for the exposition honors. So far as the matter has progressed, it would seem that the Southern city could not be assured of more than one-half the amount of financial support that is already guaranteed the San Francisco exp...

People’s Interests Guarded. [Newspaper Article] — Eagle Rock Sentinel — 8 October 1910

People’s Interests Guarded. It Is now up to the people of California on November Bth to decide whether the constitutional amendments, authorized by the State Legislature last week, permitting the State to tax herself for $5,000,000 and San Francisco to tax herself $5,000,000 more, shall be passed. The failure to pass these amendments would in all probability mean the giving up of the great project to hold the PanamaPacific world's fair in San Francisco In 1915, and letting the honor go to our rival, New Orleans. • * • The Legislature has well guarded the people in the matter of the time and terms on which the $5,000,000, If voted, shall be taken from the treasury. If San Francisco, for Instance, does not vote her bonds, or make good her $7,500,000 subscriptions, no money will ever leave the State treasury for exposition purposes. The State Commission to be appointed to take charge of the proposed $5,000,000 State exposition fund will protect the people in this matter. California can...
