University Women Enrolling for Engineering Work Reports from the War Production Board in Washington predicting that close to 2,000,000 women Will be engaged in defense industries by the end of the year brought assurances of complete co-operation today from the office of Defense Training at the University of California at Los Angeles. “Scores of college-trained women in Southern California already have filed applications for admission to our courses in aircraft engineering drawing, drafting and aircraft drawing and more are coming in daily,” reported Professor Morrough P. O’Brient, institutional representative of the ESM Defense Training program at the university. “Women in this area have indicated, by their response, that California wil shoulder a good big share of the burden in vital defense industries and we hope, through the ESMDT courses, to qualify them for trained positions,” Professor O’Brien said. We must join . . . the schools, health department, physicians, dentists, Community Chest agencies and other organizations ... to meet this tremendous health problem which undermines the health of our youth at a time when our nation most needs healthy men and wome...
