Railroads. Livery Stuble9 Merchant Tailor. Banks. MBS I I 3ihc jOaihj JJcuis. DENIHOIV, THURSDAY AUGUST 8, 1878. Organization. lu organization only is there life. In organization only is there safety. No party, no sect, no creed can long wiehl a controling influence over the emotions of the human mind and heart without it. Its aggressiveness is the only antidote to apathy and consequent disintegration either in secular or spiritual bodies. Hence we have been a constant advocatc of Democratic organization, in season and out of season, if you will. It is the only rock upon which the Demo- cratic party can build that will with- stand the storm of isms that will constantly beat against it. And or- . yauizatjonibccomes especially ncces- $<y y at this time. The Radical party is in tiaining for the presidential race in 1SS0, and to have the popular branch of congress in harmony with the administration, the leaders of that party arc straining every energy to secure a majority in the next...

' . Wf.:'" ■ ■ I'hc Bully Hems. DEIMISON, FRIDAY AUGUST 9, 1S7S. Nearly every leading Radical in Texas can now be found in the black and-tan-Greenback party. A nice place lor Democrats, isn't it? It is said the yellow fever is in- creasing in New Orleans, and is also spreading to other points. One case is reported at Memphis and two at Louisville. The lilack Hills are proving them- selves far richer in gold than at first supposed, and after the gold is ex- hausted they promise to prove very ^productive in an agricultural point of view. There are one hundred negro del- egates at the black and tan conven- tion at Waco. Why shouldn't they have an equal distribution of the honors of the ticket, say lieutenant governor, or something of that kind ? The cotton picking season has be- gun in some parts of the State, and from now until frost comes there will be a good demand for laborers at good prices, all over the State. There is no excuse now for men or boys being idle or complaining of ha...

♦ 4 to* y t I r V f; I r \ *1 4 I * 0 T T J, r H I! ; I l # Sutro and Ills Tunnel. It is about ten years since Ariolph Sutro, a broker of San Francisco, began his great work, now known as the Sutro tunnel. The project had been agitated by him for a considerable time, but it enlisted very little interest either here or among the miners on the Comstock lode. Sutro appeared for a time to work sin- gle handed, and against prodigious odds, lie was thoroughly saturated, so to speak, with his scheme. Believing in its entire feasibility himself, he had lit- tle pationce with those who did not lend him an attentive ear, and did not, at least, admit that his plan was perfootly feasible and would be ultimately crown- ed with complete success. The Bulletin was the first journal here to give him a hearing, and to publish a pretty full outline of his project. Sutro was the most persistent of men. His will-power was something that utterly ignored the contingency of a failure. The more op- position ...

%\xc Hailij Hems. DENIHON. SUNDAY AUGUST n, 1878. The citizens of the west will not be likely to forget very soon, that the Sherman delegation at the Fort Worth convention caused the de- feat of a western man for Congress. Withdrawing Hare when he was only a few votes behind Wellborn, cast the die in Wcllborn's favor. Had Hare's friends held out, the nomination of Wellborn would have been impossible, and after an ad- journment, which could have been secured, the friends of Ball and Piner might have formed a combi- nation which would have resulted in a victory for one or the other of these gentlemen. The withdrawal of Hare at the time it was effected, meant the nomination of Wellborn, and we believe that was the object, after it was seen that Hare stood no chance. There is no question about the western portion of this Congression- al district having been scooped by the Wellborn forces at Fort Worth, and it was done by work—bard, persistant work. The gentlemen who had the management o...
