10 ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT aps SEE Hot Rod & Zim: Judas Project A Positive Portrayal Of Jesus Synopsis: What if Jesus came to the Steve Zimmer: The Judas Project was re- leased in Abilene amid the storms of nationwide contro- versy. The film takes a hypo- thetical look at the life of Christ if it had occurred in 1993. Obviously somechanges have been made for the update. The representation of Pilate is seen within a context that is similar to leader of the United Nations. Swords are replaced by guns and Jesus is clean shaven and dressed in a col- lared shirt. The whole feel of the film was a warm one. It covers the end of Jesus' life crucifixion and resurrection. The main emphasis was on the ' pacifist nature of Christ and how he did not conform to the ten- ants of society. Cinematically this was sub- tly represented when Jesus is called in before all of the worlds & leaders. They are all dressed up in suits and ties while Jesus known in the film as Jesse is in . casual garb...

aSSZS ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT 11 The Whistle Stop Cafe Revisted by Tara Tremaine When Fannie Flagg pub- lished her second novel Fried GreenTomatoesAtThe Whistle Stop Cafe in 1987 her literary accomplishment was met with both critical and public praise. Little did she know that the film of the same name would be one of the most endearing morion pictures produced in 1991. Known as "the little film that could" Fried Green To- matoes was a surprise success. In a year of sequels and re- cycled action pictures Toma- toes found an audience that the film industry had overlooked. An audience that embraced this story of friendship and wel- comed it as a refreshing change of pace. Now over a year later it has grossed well over $80 mil- lion at the box office spent several weeks on the video rental top ten chart has re- mained in the top 20 video sales chart since it's release this past February and will make it's tele- vision debut this Sunday May 2 on NBC. HSU Brand April 29 1993 12 SPORTS Press Box: Season In Review by CAF (cakes) As things get ready to close up the Press Box let us look at what went on this past year in Hardin -Simmons athletics. Yesterday the Cowboy baseball team hosted Howard Payne to decide the TI A A Con- ference Championship. Down one game in the standings HSU beat HPU 8-0 in game one be- hind thefour-hitpitchingof Roy Miller and the home run hitting of Chris Johnson. That perfor- mance put the second game as the Championship game. HSU jumped out to a 1-0 after one inning but HPU rallied for six big runs in their half of the second to put the game out of reach. For the Cowboys they finish a very successful year at 27-17-1. At one stretch of the year they had a twelve game winning streak. For the Cow- boys next is the District VIII Tournament at Tarleton State next week. The Pokes also say good-bye to two seniors this year as Jim Simon and Wade Smith conclude their careers with HSU. r V. 1 llr rV-t:LJlJl SEETEM'B'ZRJ 1393 The Road Less Travelled: by Paige McCain Activism. Unfortunately this is a word which some students use to describe what a "bleeding heart liberal does to annoy those who really work for a living." People tend to label activists as "granola dressing vegetable eating envi- ronmentalanimal rights peace freaks" who become all emotional in class when certain topics are discussed. Worst of all they sit next to you. There are people in this world who go to real extremes to make a statement about something they believe in. This method does have it's advantages i.e. people will notice and think about the issues. But the few people that use ex- treme tactics have stigmatized ac- tivism with very negative conno- tations. This is quite frustrating for those who simply want to raise the level of recognition for their cause. Recognizing there is a prob- lem is the first step in what will hopefully lead to public involve- ment. Fear of what others might thi...
