Sydney Mems. [Newspaper Article] — Narromine News and Trangie Advocate — 5 May 1899

Sydney Mems. The ' D.T.' is taking a rise out of the people. Sir Joseph Abbott, unfortunately, is still very ill and will not be able to take part, iu the present campaign. He keeps as quiot baB he possibly can and that iB no easy task in tbeBe ex cited times. It is understood that 6ir Josepn is strongly urgea to uaye complete rest, bnt he is reluctant to re* tire from political life. Mr. Dangar M.L.C., complains that there was scarcely any news from Australia in the London press while r he was visiting Egypt. Well, the .; London press should have known better. It is really Bhooking neglect on the part of the conductors. Possibly, however they were unaware of Mr. Dangar's proximity. The Neild commotion ib relished by -^ no one so much as the political, V poetical ' prisoner ' himself. Notoriety is tbe nutriment on which ' noscent Neild thrives. He reckons he has ocenpied public attention for a whole fortnight.. That is an achievement dear to the heart of the volunteer Lieutenaut-Col...

Oddfellowship. [Newspaper Article] — Narromine News and Trangie Advocate — 5 May 1899

Oddfellowship. The members of the local Lodge of Oddlellows had arranged for a visit from the principal officers of the lodge at Dnbboon Wednesday evening last, and about 25 members assembled at the Exchange Hotel to receive them. Unfortunately from some cause 'or other the Dubbo contingent did not pnViu an appearance, much to the regret 'of those present. However, a thoroughly enjoyable evening was spent, and after full justice had been . done to the excellent spread provided ' by the host and hostess, a number of toast were honored and speech-making was the order of the evening. Bro. D. Mackenzie who was voted to the chair, called upon Bro. O'Mara for a speech. Mr. O'Mara said that he was not accustomed to speaking in public, and therefore would not attempt to make a speech, but he wished* to apologise for the absence of the Dubbo brethren. He knew that thoso brothers took an interest in the Narromine Lodge, and he felt sure that they had some good excuse for not being present. He...

Vagrant Notes. [Newspaper Article] — Narromine News and Trangie Advocate — 5 May 1899

Vagrant Notes. ? ? The Executive Council, -whilst con firming Colonel Bailey's action in sus pending Colonel Neild, recommended that as that doughty warrior had ex pressed great regret for what he had done, no further punishment be in flicted on him ; all of which is very amusing reading, especially when it is remembered that there wss nothing of sufficient importance in the whole affair to bring it under the jurisdiction of such an august body as tbe Execu tive Council. In the opinion of the rt™1- in the street (that -jnini6cient in iHradnaLstiidr' ir*-'1'-— V''*—-*-^- tation, and whoso blame means -pnohc extinction) the efficiency of the Volunteer Service would not be seriously impaired were the martial M.L.A. to retire altogether.
