ALEXANDRA A.L.P. The Alexandra branch of the Aus tralian Labor Party held a very suc cessful and happy smoke social in the Oddfellows' Hall on Thursday night of last week. Visitors were present from surrounding districts, and the gath ering was honored by the presence of Mr. J. H. Smith, endorsed Labor can I didate for the Goulburn' electorate, and Mr. J. Triptovitch, Victorian or ganiser for the A.L.P. After the loyal toast had been hon ored with due dignity, the chairman (Mr. K. IIoban) welcomed all to what he described as "not a political meet ing." The speaker said it was simply a get-together and a return of the hospitality the Alexandra branch had experienced in other branches. Mr. IHoban pointed out that the Labor SParty had been born in the.1890's of the great industrial troubles of that time, and the mateship cemented then had been carried on in shearing sheds, water fronts, and wherever men work ed. Anzac Day. Anzac Day was observed on Tuesday last. Ex-service: per sonnel and members of the Cit izen Army marched to the Monu ment where wreaths were laid by representatives of various lo cal organisations, including one from Malvern Branch R.S.L., the parent body of Alexandra R.s.L. The column was led by several Salvation Army bandsmen from Yea. A service was held at the Shire Hall. Mr. L. W. Coates deliver ed an address, and appropriate hymns were rendered by the ga thering. Rain of 'March 17, 18 and 19 re-. corded. in Gobur-Yarck district was 10 inches., Creeks ?vere running full .for longer period 'than has 'been ex perienced for some years. The follow ing damage was listed:--(1) .Tempo rary filling on Gobur-Yarck road near Coghill's was washed under; two stringers with decking were placed across the wash-out, at a cost of £26, not including decking. A grant has been made for a new culvert at this site. (2) South abutment of bridge over Home Creek, on Middle Creek road, was partly washed out. As a new bridge is to be built, the old struc ture was repaired so as to carry the traffic until the new bridge is built. (2) North abi.tment and span of the bridge at C. BowsUg Club The annual challenge match from players representing the more portly gentlemen and the poorer looking fellows, the Fats' versus Thins, was played on Saturday last as a finale to the year's activities. The Thins whose record of victories gave them great heart, streaked to an early lead, but were later beaten into. the ground, the Fats winning by 1-1-150. The players then adjourned to the Commercial Hotel where the Fats ate heartily at the the Thin's expense. The evening was a happy one making the dinner, as usual, a noteworthy event.
