Tho first experiment with barley led U> 110 definite results, as, owing to tho heavy rainfall, tho crop was badly logged It wits, however, liolued that a moderate application by drill of superphosphate:, and nitrate of : oda produced no ill effects on the germina tion of the seed, and rathor stimulated tho first development of tho younger plants. More successful result.-, were, obtain ed with sugar hoet, manuring in tho drills leading to better development of tho crop, and while there were no great differences in the sugar content of tho beets, tho yield obtained was greatly in favor of this method.
