Tho cricketers had arranged for a married v. tingle scratch match for Friday, but it fell through for want of players, and tho same misfortune happened to them on Saturday. Tho Kev. Mr. Harrison, from Windsor, preached to a fair congregation in the Church of England on Sunday aftornoon, his subject being appropriate to tlie day. Tbo c'mrcli was very tastefully decorated with evergreens and white flowers nicely arranged, especially tho rostrum, which had quite an artistic effect. Misses Cookson, Mitchell, and Bukland deserve praise for tho manner in which the decorations were carried out. Tho Primitive Methodist Church held their anniversary services on Sunday, when the Rev. CayraH OnHiMcIpral Election. The nominations for tho vacancy in the council caused by the resignation of Air. J. Dawson took placo in the Council Chambers on Tuesday morning. Mr. J. H. Watson was nominated by Dr. T. C. Fisher, W. Wullace, and J. Gott. Mr. Franklin was nominated by Mr. A. J. Harrison and Mr. A. J. Turner. Mr. Watson said that although not known personally to the ratepayers present, he was known to most by name. He did not, in submitting himself as a candidate, wish to represent ono one portion of the municipality as against another. He had no axe to grit'd and if returned wonld represent the whole of the ratepayers.
