Home of "Standard" 1929-1949 [Newspaper Article] — Frankston Standard — 5 October 1949

Iome of "Standard" 1929-1949 This building was erected in 1929, four years after amalgama tion between Cheltenham and Frankston, and was added to about ten years ago. It is a build ing well-known to most Franks ton people, and this picture is produced not only for readers to see where "The Standard" has been printed for the past twenty years, but also to place this building (soon to be referred to as the old premises) on record. It is soon to disappear, being re placed by a building three times its size, with an inviting office, and comfortable working condi tions for all employees. The new building will have a colorful frontage, which will make it a landmark. The hard-working, but happy hours spent in the build ing depicted here will soon only be a memory.

Standard's Editor [Newspaper Article] — Frankston Standard — 5 October 1949

Standard's Editor (By D. Bowman) MR. E. J. TRAIT. I look back with much pleas ure and great satisfaction to the i day I, with my co-directors, ap i pointed E. J. Trait as Editor and I Managing Director of Standard Newspapers Pty. Ltd., for he has proved himself to be most satis factory to the shareholders and to all concerned. Within two years of his appointment, as the result of his capable manage ment, the shareholders commenc ed to receive very satisfactory dividends, which is what share holders look for, and might I add numbered among the sharehold ers are many of the Company's employees - something which E.J.T. encourages. Checking up on E. J. Trait's past, I find he was born at Geelong, educated at Central College, and later attend ed night school whilst working in a shipping office, eventually pass ing a competitive examination for the Public Service. He was ap pointed to the Federal Treasury, where he remained for ten years. His abundance of energy com pelled him to leave th...

"The Standard the Future[?] [Newspaper Article] — Frankston Standard — 5 October 1949

"The Standa the Futu Whilst it is appropriate that a publi Diamond Jubilee should devote most of i which are gone, some mention should fi «"'hn Cfo 1 C of f C 0.tnr n The rapid expansion of Stand ard Newspapers' business during the past ten years has caused embarrassment - because the business has outgrown the head office and works at Cheltenham, to such a degree that space is so taken up that not one addi tional person can be added to the staff to cope with the work. Therefore, it is with great sat isfaction that we announce that the new modern office and works at Cheltenham are on the way to completion, more than trebling the size of the existing building, .and very soon the home of "The Standard" and the other weekly papers of the chain will be the most modern of its type, at least in Victoria. Fitted with the very latest in lighting, house communication ('phone and rapid wire), with at tractive office furniture and blinds, every possible office machine suitable to the type of wo...
