THE NORTHERN Mining Register, PUBLISHED WEEKLY. SATURDAY, APRIL 25, 1891 The "Times" and the Employers' Association. [Newspaper Article] — The Northern Mining Register — 25 April 1891

THE NORTHERN ? ? <M mmg er PUBLISHED WEEKXY. SATURDAY, APRIL 25, W91 The "Times" audi the Em ployers' Association. It is not often that we take occasion to criticise statements that appear in the columns of our contemporaries, but the recent attempt made by the local "Times" to create impressions that might have ended in a most serious manner, cannot be passed over without comment , more especially as the .paper referred to has acted precipitately, without exercising' the least caution, and probably has been suppliel with the information ? on whieh its as sertions were based, by some vindictive person or persons whose wish for a local disturbance between Capital and L-abor was but the father to the thought, and whose imagination fur nished the alleged facts. Briefly stated the case was as follows. On the I5thinst. the "Times" published a snb-le«der in which it was stated that it had long been aware that *^a certain organisation, on this field, known as the Employers' Asso...

TURF GOSSIP. [Newspaper Article] — The Northern Mining Register — 25 April 1891

TURF GOSSIP. (BY HEBHXX ) Tlie sports who went from Charters Towers to see the Bulburraman races returned on Tuesday and seem to hare enjoyed their outing. Constant, who went down there, won the Visitors' Handicap, li miles, lint in » half-mile match for a tenner a-side with the chestnutgeldinglbex, he was beaten easily. The Cape River Handicap was won by b g Mpleolm, with Constant second, while the Bulburraman Handicap fell to Corsair (eh g) with. Ibex seeond. I called in during the week to have a loot at Vigor, who has been subjected to a severe blistering. He looks particularly healthy, and Mr. Lindsej talks of running him again at the AnnuaJ, I very much doubt this, how ever, and his understandings will require a bit of tender treatment before he can be put to work with safety. A friend of mine who attended the late AJ C. Meeting tells me that he met Mr. S. Gr.' Elliott in the paddock at Randwick, and no doubt the worthy secretary of the Towneville Turf Club will, whilst touring...
