Featherweight Concrete [Newspaper Article] — Western Star — 4 February 1949

Featherweight Concrete Concrete so light that It wlU float on water and can be cut to size with a saw and nailed, is be ing investigated by the Building Besearcb Section of G.8.LB. Outstanding "advantages of this material are lightness and low thermal conductivity. A two-inch layer ol some grades of ccllular cement pro vides tie same heat insulation as ouo inch thickness of cork. On a large scale cost is comparable with ordinary concrete or clay bricks. Foamed concrete has lieen used ex tensively in England, because of its lightness, to reduce the weight of precast concrete panels used for pre fabricated house construction. It iB a very promising material for flat roof construction where lightness and thermal insulating properties are important factors.
