TOPICS OF THE WEEK. HEIDELBERG MEETINGS. [Newspaper Article] — Heidelberg News and Greensborough, Eltham and Diamond Creek Chronicle — 10 March 1917

TOPICS OF THE WEEK. KIEIDELBERtG MEETINGS. The small attendance at meetings in Heidelberg is proverbial, and it has been twice referred to this week--Mr May commenting upon it at the Progress As sociation meeting, and Cr. JKeam at the recruiting, when he apologised for the small number who attended to meet speakers'from the cit. There are some consistent people who evince interest in what is going on, but a great many do not appear to accept any responsibility for citizenship. A meeting is to be held on Tuesday evening next in Scotsl Hall for the purpose of forming a branch of the Soldiers' Welfare League, and as everyone should be interested in the work, it if hoped that there will be a large attendance and a strong branch formed.

Topsey-Turveydom. [Newspaper Article] — Heidelberg News and Greensborough, Eltham and Diamond Creek Chronicle — 10 March 1917

Che DCws. PUBLISHED EVERY SATURDAY MORNING SATURDAY, MARCH 10. Topsey-Turveydom. Although Aus;tralia has over 300,000 men fighting for the free dom of all that is best to live for, there are thousands in this country who have not yet realised that we are at war. They know there is a war on, the same as they knew that Russia and Japan hpd a fight some years ago, but as to the Armageddon in Europe affecting them - well, what's it got to do with Australia! Let some people read that there is a strike on, and that a small section of men are to receive 14s a day.instead of 12s, and the capitalist is to have his powers curtailed, then they know there is something doing. That is their war, .in face of the fact that Australia is the greatest land of freedom, with the most opportuni ties, in the world. For the divul gence of party secrets, the intense and bitter hatred of politicians, and the scenes in the Federal House, this island continent, with its hand ful of people, is the political blo...
