ORIGINAL C0ERESP0MDEHCE. The Mechanic's Institute. To (Ac Editor of tht JVnrandcro Argue. Music, a passable sort of accom plishment, very useful in the back bush, very fashionable and very — in a sequential ssnse — necessary. But the popular notion in b fine player is embodied in the person who can most savagely assault a piano, and the popular teacher is the person who can turn out as many savage assaulters as possible in a given training time, ranging from ono to eight quarters. But not one person in a thousand knows, or knowing could be indused that music is as exact a science as mathematics ana1 with a litera ture and ethics bb copious as that attached to any other learned profession. Com niioge, the French Ambassador to the Court of Charles the Second, UBed to borrow the Court musicians — he called them the King's FiddUra — to play in his chapel.
