MURRAY PARK WORKING BEE. On Saturday last the committee control ling Murray Park held a very successful working bee. A start was made with the roadway leading in from Thomas Street to the 50-yard square playground The road and most of th« playgrounds Were cleared of tussocks and tile trees grubbed. Two drays were kept busy during the afternoon picking up tins and rubbish and burying it in sand holes. In tlits manner the hoys were able to render valuable assistance. Afternoon tea was provided by the ladles and during that in terval the president, Mr. R. A. Olivers, supported by the vice-president, Mr. H. Champion, thanked the ladles and also the helpers on behalf of the commtitee for their splendid response to the cause. In spite of the hard work a very pleasant afternoon was spent and everyone voted -t a splendid afternoon's fun. BUSH FIRES ACT PROSECUTIONS. Magistrate's Court, Mannum. J Thursday, February 17. J (Before D. Shearer and W. W. Gilbert, J's.P.) James W. Giazbrook, of Wall, was charged on the information of M.C. Kain with having, on January 14. burnt Btubble on Wall Irrigation area contrary to the Bush Fires Act. Defendant pleaded guilty, and was lined £2, reduced to 10/-, and 15/ eourt fees. Andrew Clode, of Wall, charged with a similar offence on the same day, pleaded not guilty. He ex plained that he had lit the Are for the purpose of burning a break to save his lucerne from damage by the fire in Cluzbrook's property. The bench accepted the explanation and dismissed the case.

ROAD EXPERIMENTS. Before retiring from the Mannum Council last year, Mr. A. C. Bolto, tlien chairman, spent some consider able time in enquiring into variou^ methods of road making and repair lng. As a result of these enquiries he presented a very full report to the council, which was adopted, and it was decided to experiment on the lines suggested by Mr. Bolto during the present summer. The council Is now carrying out what is stated to be the pioneer experiment with Spra mex on limestone roads. The work is being done on the main road from St. Andrew's Church to just round the Memorial Corner. On trial being made it was found that Spramex alone was not effective, as it would not take satisfactorily to the dusty limestone. A mixture of crude oil and Spramex in equal quantites was then used as a priming coat. This was allowed to soak in for 48 hours and then followed by a coaling of Spramex. On this a fair sprinkling of granite gravel was. spread and the traffic allowed on the road. T...

HARVEST THANKSGIVINGS. Harvest thanksgiving services were held in two of the Mannum churches on Sunday last. At St. Andrew's Church there was a good attendance at the early morning service, and at Evensong the church was nearly full. The Rev. J. L. Bond was the preacher. As usual, the church was tastefully decorated. At the Mannum Metho dist Church the service at XI a.m. and 7 p.m. were attended by large con gregations and the offertory was very generous. Many gifts of flowers and produce were received from members, of the congregation. The Rev. F. C. Grelg conducted both services. Monday evening a social was held ; in the church and a sale of gifts look-.j place. A program of musical and'] elocutionary items was rendered by the Rev. F. Greig, Mrs. F. Peters and , Mr. G. C. Morley. Enoign Gould (Salvation Army) addressed the gath ering. The attendance at the social was not so large as had been expected, otherwise the evening was quite suc cessful.
