POLICE OFFICE.-THURSDAY. A Pickpocket,-Ellen O'Neill was charged by Detective Vickers, with stealing, on the 23rd February, a purse containing money, belonging to William Woodcock.   Mrs. Woodcock deposed that she met the prisoner in Liverpool-street. Prisoner spoke to witness, and was close to her. Witness had, at that time, her purse with money in ¡t, in her pocket. On witness returning home she missed her purse, and going back saw prisoner sit- ting on the kerb stone in Liverpool street. Witness watched prisoner home, and then gave her in custody. Prisoner offered to return 7s 6d. The purse pro- duced by Detective Vickers is the one witness lost. The purse was found at the police station, close to where the prisoner was standing. Never saw the   prisoner before she met her in Liver   pool-street.   Constable Walkcr deposed to appre- hending prisoner in her house in Murray- street. Tho arrival of the Heather Boll, Trade Wind, and Dominion during tho week, with heavy cargoes, havo added considerably to tho stocks in hand, but have not ail'ected tho market in any material manner. Business has been uniformly moderate the last few days, and has shewn au improvement upon last week, the prevailing dullness net being quito eo general. ? In the early part of tua week very little movement was perceptible in the grain market, anti the closing prices of last week remained in force, 7s 9d be- in" tho outside prico for the best sam- ples of wheat; but latterly the tenden- cy has been again upwards, owing in some measure to a cargo of very fine Adelaide wheat realizing beyond the market price, and good samples have since fetched Ss per bushel.
