STavUC DEAD BT LIGIITKnIG.-The Brisbane Courier of the 16th instant says: -An inquest was held at Yeerongpilly, on Saturday last, on the body of ludsord Char les Palmer, who was struck dead by light. ning on the previous day. The evidence of William Payne, a farmer, residing at Oxley Creek, showed that on Friday, about noon, the deceased and he were working together on the bank of the creek within eight yards of one another. There came a very vivid flash of lightning, and immediately Payne looked up he saw the deceased had been knok-ed down. He ran to him, and on tak ;::, hi-n up heard him I'reithe once. A FIVE FOLD MURDEREB. -4--- The Assize Court of Douai was occupied on Saturday with the trial of a murderer named Manesse, who killed five persons with a hatchet, and left a sixth for dead, in so incredibly short a space of time that, un til that he had made a full confession, the public refused to believe in the possibility of the crimes of which he was accused.
