CYCLING AND MOTORING [Newspaper Article] — Tocumwal Guardian and Riverina Echo — 1 August 1913

CYCLING AND MOTORING R. Lewis, the South African road crack, who carricd off the Olympic Road Race at Stock holm last year, has again put up ,a rattling good performance in a long distance road event. Lewis, who has now turned pro fessional, won the "Round Dres den," an event over a course of 140.] miles, beating the cream of German road men, His time was 7 hrs. 52 mins. 23 sees., ^andthe fact that he won in re markably good company proves I that his surprise win. at Stock j holm was no fluke. The MotorrCyclette, a new type of featherweight motor cycle that should appeal to cyclists, is now receiving con siderable attention in England. It has been felt Mr'a long time past that the present day popu lar type of 3^ h.n. machine, weighing about 1} cwt. is too heavy and cumbersome to ap peal to cyclist's, and that if a miniature motor bicycle of simple construction and e£sy 5 manipulation, light in weight and economical to run was marketed, it would find a ready sale amongst the cycling ...

FOOTBALL. Southern Rfverina Association. SEMI-FINAL WON BY FINLEY CLUB. the semi-final in the Southern Riverina Football Association was played on the Tocumwal ground on Saturday last. be tween Tocumvval and Finley clubs, and was witnessed by a large crowd of enthusiasts and the general public, £11 v being taken at the gate. As on the last occasion when these teams met it was proved they were very evenly matched, as Finley ran out winners by the- - narrow margin of but two points. The weather was ideal for football, and the spectators were treated to a splendid game. These teams have met three times dur ing the present season, twice on the Tocumwal ground and once at Finley. TALK O' THE TOWN. [Newspaper Article] — Tocumwal Guardian and Riverina Echo — 1 August 1913

TALK 0' THE TOWN. (By "Honey Bee.") It makes me smile when a man urges me to take a broad view of any public question. The broad view is always his view! . * » » The picture of the champion sculler of the world—now an Englishman—was published in the weekly papers last week. Alas, the winner was not Pearce, the Australian. There was a lime in the history of sculling when it would have been foolisli to ask the name of the champion from even a child—evcryboJv would know! .Those were tl.e good'old days of sport!
