Field meet . The inter-class field meet , one of the most interesting athletic events of the year , will take place on Nixon Field next Saturday , the twentythird . The following events arc scheduled : ioo yard dash , 220 yard dash , 440 yard dash , 100 yard hurdle , 220 yard hurdle , high jump , broad jump , pole vault , half-mile walk , throwing the base-ball , and in-ter-clabs mile relay race . Two fine silk banners have been procured , one to be awarded to the class winning the the relay race , and one to the class winning the highest number of points . The Musical Clubs Trip . Next Wednesday the Musical Clubs will stait out upon what promises to be a veiy pleasant and successful trip . The places in which the clubs will give concerts aie the following : Newport , on Apr . 27 ; Millersbuig , on Apr . 28 _, Hanisbuig , on Apr . 29 ; and Mt . Holly , on Apr . 20 . To any one who has heard the clubs perform there is no doubt but that this year s trips will be among the most successful in the history of the musical organizations at Gettysburg . The _flovmal Course . The idea of a teachers Course to be conducted in connection with the regular woik of the Pieparatory Department was first suggested and cailied out under Principal O . G . Klinger in the spring of 1896 . _ATHLETIC _tfEWS . GnmsnuKG 2 . Indians 2 . The opening game of the season was played on the Dickinson giounds at Carlisle , Satuiday , April 16 th , with the Indian School . It lesulted in a tie , the score being 2 to 2 at the end of the eighth inning , when the game was called to permit the Gettysburg boys to catch their tiain . It was a fine exhibition of good ball playing , both teams doing star work . Both of Gettysbuig s runs were made in the first inning , and she succeeded in shutting the Indians out until the sixth , when two mns were brought in by errors , one by Moser s muff in left field , and one by an overthrow to sccdnd by Brown . The piettiest feature of the game was the work of the batteiies on both sides . Hudson s ability is well known , and Farnham did fine work , exhibiting good judgment , combined with steady control and speed . TOWN NOTES . Three deaths have taken place in Gettysburg within the past week . Miss Mary D . McClellan died suddenly at her loom in Hotel Gettysburg , on Wednesday evening of last week . The funeral took place Saturday afternoon . Mrs Maiia Butt died at her home on West Middle street , on Tuesday morning of this week , and her funeral is fixed for Thursday morning . Mrs McAlistei died at her home on Baltimore street , Tuesday evening . The deceased was a sister of Miss Agnes Ban . On Thuisday of last week the Governor granted a charter to The Peoples Electric Light , Heat and Power Company of Gettysburg .
