The defense sought to establish that for six years the grocety trade sometimes bought of rival refineiies, because these competitors fixed a scale of cheaper prices which the Ameri can company did not always meet. A Filipino woman, who was with the girl at the time and went to a fruitless rescue, was so nearly drowned that she is still in the hos pital in a delicate condition.
