If a liberal coat of barn-yard manure be ploughed in, all the better. If the soil is at all heavy, so that there are many clods and hard lumps on the surface" after ploughing, let the harrowing be done at a time when the lumps are suffi ciently moist to fall to pieces at a slight touch. Some kinds of land will be greatly improved by rolling the surface when the clods are in a condition to forma-mellew seed-bed. This point in the condition of hard lumps of soil, must be watched closely after a heavy rain ; and as soon as they appear ten der, let the roller be started. Then let the yards ,be thoroughly scraped and the-fine accumulations be spread thin over the surface, for the purpose of giving the yoi;ng gras3 a rapid start. Let the l...

gavm ami jStousritoM. MIXED CKOPS. 'I'lic Policy of Itaisiitg tolloa Alono. From the Atlanta Constitution. A vast deal ha.3 lx?eu said in the pa pers araint the policy of planters rais ing cotton alone, to the neglect of other things. It has been found very dilllcult to create any change in this policy, though the country has suflered by it. Farmers will-do as the please, and they resolutely stick to their cotton monop oly. The proper way to reach the matter is not simply to theorize about it, but to give facta and figures demonstrating the advantage of the mixed crop plan over the other- We find in the Southern Cultivator tho rettfit of ah-actual experience, which illustrates the matter so fully that we reproduce the article. The statements are based on two farms of equal fertility, of two hundred acres each. The expense of tho cotton farm will be for 15 hands and 5 mules; for the mixed farm 10 hands and 5 mules. The results are well worthy of notice : EX l'KXSKS OF ::00 ACRES IN C...
