Miners on the South Fork of vScott river, in Siskiyon county, are all making a good year of it, notwithstanding the heavy freezes of last winter and spring and the consequent delays in getting work started. The quartz mines in the vicinity of Angels haye not looked more favorable for the past ten years. The vein in the Fletcher mine is increasing in width as the shaft goes down, and is much richer than at first. Miners are hard at work at Warren V, Idaho. Snow has disappeared almost en tirely from the trail leading to the mines. The trail between Mount Idaho and Flor ence has recently been cleared of fallen timber and its condition for travel is better than ever before. Quite a force of men are now at work on the mines of the Trench company at White Pine, Nev. All matter relating to the agricultural interest will be fund under tuia bead. The Enemies of Fruit. The insects destructive to fruits in this State are doing greater damage* this year than ever before. Their ravages are becoming a very serious and alarming matter, not only to j ■fruit-growers, but to fruit-consumers as well. ] It is in truth a matter that affects one of the j heretofore most promising productive indus tries of the State, and calls for something I more than a passing notice. California has been looming up for the past ten or fifteen years as the wonder of the world in fruit growing, and as the source from whence large portions of the world must draw their fruit supply. Until within a few years we •were exempt from all the drawbacks that had •visited other fruit-producing countries; but now th...

THE DAILY RECORD-UNION. SATIRDAY -II L\ 31. 11-80. THE WEEKLY UNION. The Weekly Ustos during the busiueos year just dosed has had an unprecedented (fain in subscrip tion lists, and enters the new business season with euch prospects as few weekly papers can boast. The Weekly Ujuon has indeed come to be recognized as the leading weekly of the coast, and for obvious reisona. It surpasses all competitors in the matter, it presents, giving no less than sixteen pa?es per wtek of choice news, reading and critical matter, iliit these sixteen pages are not sent to the reader at one time, to embarrass him by their volume. On the contrary, the Weekly Dm is div ded into two parta, each termed the Semi-Weekly Record-Union, ami these two, issued on Wednesdays and Saturdays, mike up the Weekly Unios. By this means the news is sent to the reader fresher and oitener than «aa be done by the old stylo of weekly.
